Conservation of wild animals as well as the maritime resources has been identified as a prominent responsibility of Sri Lanka and Navy keeps vigilant eye on that. Few elephants which were being washed away by sea currents in the seas between Kokkuthuduwai in Kokilai lagoon and Round island / Keuliya Point in Trincomalee, were rescued by SL Navy in 2017. Further, after commencing the construction work of Yan Oya reservoir, the reptiles, insects and many other creatures entangled in plots of forests were rescued by the Navy a in combined operation with Department of Wildlife.
