Domain of Green & Blue
Sri Lanka Naval Dockyard is the largest naval base of the Sri Lanka Navy located in Eastern coast of Sri Lanka in one of the finest natural harbours in the world. The land area of the Dockyard spreads over 850 acres containing natural ‘green’ forest cover over two third of its land patch surrounded by ‘blue’ sea. Established by the British as the Royal Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee and was the home to the East Indies Station of the Royal Navy during World War II. Since the withdrawal of the Royal Navy, the Royal Ceylon Navy (RCyN) took over dockyard in 1957 and became the home base of the RCyN fleet. Today, it is the home base to the Eastern Naval Command of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Naval Dockyard, than ever before, started initiatives to conserve its marine environment and ecosystem within the Dockyard premises and surrounding sea. Thus an environmental policy also referred to as ‘Dockyard Green and Blue Policy’ was launched on 21 Jun 19 by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva with the official declaration of Naval Dockyard as a ‘Domain of Green and Blue’ to set this as an example to influence the community to go for green and blue and mitigate the human impact on the global environment.
