UNDERSTANDING MARITIME DOCTRINE
        Navy and Maritime Doctrine

The Navy is the main instrument and manifestation of the maritime
power of a nation-state. The reason Navy to exist is to safeguard the
nation’s use of the seas for its legitimate sovereign purposes, whilst
concurrently guarding against unfriendly use of the sea by others.
Maritime Doctrine, therefore, focuses on that dimension of maritime
power, which facilitates and enables use of the seas by all stake holders.
